September Stockist of the Month: City Cycle Centre - Craft Dept

The craft department at City Cycle Centre in Ely Cambridgeshire has been running for over 20 years and is an Aladdin's cave of fabrics, thread, wool and so much more. The team are always happy to help out one-to-one with project problems and love seeing ideas develop into something beautiful. We spoke to Ellan to find out more about the craft department story...

Tell us about the history of the craft department and the team?

The craft department has been running for over 20 years and has become one of the leading haberdashery shops in the area. Despite many changes in the team, we have always put 100% into the department and our customers. We stock a range of fabrics, threads, wool and so so much more!

What do you offer that makes you stand out from other craft retailers?

We offer a wide range of crafts; from haberdashery and children's kits to models and wood work. This is thanks to us being a multi-department store, allowing us to stock the more unusual of items. We are always happy to help and give one-on-one service to overcome those difficult project problems! People travel from all over the country just to visit our 'Aladdin's Cave' craft department.

What are you passionate about?

We love helping people and seeing their projects come to life. Some questions and queries can not only create wonderful pieces but also- they inspire us! In the craft department we are all about inspiring people, be it young or old, we love to see the excitement of an idea build into something beautiful.

How do you choose what you stock?

Our main ideas of what to stock comes from our customers! We listen to their needs and cater our stock to be appropriate. We also choose fabrics and products that make us excited to create. We regularly stock unusual fabrics and limited edition items as well as pieces from popular artists and designers.

What do you love about quilting?

We love that there is no wrong way to do it! You can piece any shapes and colours together to make it completely original. It's a perfect way to get all of those designs out of your head and into a project! Quilting is also a brilliant way to use up all the spare bits of fabric from a previous project, meaning no wastage!

What project are you working on at the minute?

As a team we are completing a 'Quilt-as-you-go' table mat set! We created packages of fabrics and one table mat each to test out. The results are amazing so far! (pictured below) It's so easy and simple to do with such beautiful end results! Once completed we will be using the remaining fabric to make a 'scrap quilt' pillow case!

Are there any future plans you wish to share with us?

As always, we are receiving all sorts of different fabrics as well as getting all of our Christmas stock out!
