February Stockist of The Month: Miss Gingers

Tell us about the history of your shop and the team?

Miss Ginger’s had been a dream for a long time. It was just me, a single mum, teaching children with special needs full time. Every time I could I would build on my fabric stock until I had enough to start the website four years ago. I have continued to build on the fabric I sell and then in November 2017, Miss Ginger’s bricks and mortar shop opened in Greenwich in South East London. It is still just me, but with great support from my children and partner. I hope to take on staff soon as my shop seems to get busier the more people find out about me.

What do you offer that makes you stand out from other retailers?

I believe I have a truly wonderful and eclectic mix of fabrics. I even stock some vintage fabrics. I am committed to Miss Ginger’s being a place that is friendly and supportive of my customers. I love getting pictures of what people have made that are displayed on my website and on the wall in my shop. Its lovely to see how one customer can help another. I truly love fabric and crafts and I hope this comes across to my customers.

What are you passionate about?

I loved working with children and young adults with learning difficulties and autism and hope to run some craft classes for children with special needs soon. I am also looking at taking some young people on for work experience. Sewing and making is such a beautiful thing to do. You get such a real sense of achievement when you finish a project or see the glow of a customer excited about the fabric that they have found – I love it! I am also passionate about design and colour and try to visit galleries and museums when I get a chance. So much can inspire you.

How do you choose what you stock?

I really go with what I like but I think it’s crucial to have a good range of colours and themes.

What do you love about quilting?

Everything! I adore colour and matching fabrics, seeing a design come together. Seeing what customers make is always a pleasure and I am always impressed by their work. I still gasp at quilts that I see on sites like Pinterest. I love that quilting not only looks fabulous but is super useful too. To snuggle up in a home made quilt made with love is scrumptious!

What projects are you working on at the minute?

I am working on two right now: a patchwork quilt using the latest gorgeous Liberty quilting range. I am also making a little girls dress from Merchant and Mills pattern using Playtime Fun from Michael Miller.

Are there any future plans you wish to share with us?

To continue to grow and become a brilliant quilter myself! Work is in progress for social events and coffee mornings. I started with 10 bolts of fabric and now have over 300, and plan to keep building. I am also going to start a You Tube channel….
